I’m sorry: A note to Al Davis

Dear Mr. Davis,

This past weekend, I was made aware of your passing. To put it frankly, I was shocked. You made unprecedented changes to the NFL and to the game of football in general. Your 45+ years with the Raiders has been great to watch from generation to generation. From your crazy draft picks (Sebastian Janikowski in the 1st Round) to the “Just win, baby” catchphrase, it was always a pleasure to watch you work your magic with the Raiders.

However, I’d like to just make this short and sweet. You might be asking, “Who is this guy and why is he writing me this letter?” Well, I am @TheSportzGuru. Something has bothered me for a while and I need to tell you exactly what it is. Recently, I’ve noticed that my fellow bloggers have written about your passing. I’m sorry that I haven’t written anything for you.

There. I said it.

I have no idea why I haven’t written anything commemorating your death. I guess if you were the Giants owner, I would’ve written something. I now understand that I should have written something about you, no matter what team you owned. It’s like when Michael Jackson died; nobody cared about his “Off the stage” issues, all they cared about was the entertainment he provided them in his 35+ years in the industry

I hope you can forgive me so I can get this out of my head. RIP Al Davis.

  1. Who would’ve thought the Grim Reaper could die!

    • Nobody, I honestly didn’t think he would die this young.

I kinda thought he would live on forever in a way, he was just so special and instrumental to the league as a whole

  2. There were always rumors of him being alive, him being dead, whatever, but Al Davis was just one of a kind.
