NCAA Tournament

Which NCAA Tournament matchup are you most excited to watch today? Personally, I’m excited to see the Harvard/ Vanderbilt game. The former hasn’t been in the Big Dance since 1946. Vanderbilt is the higher seed (5), but we know that 12 seeds upset their 5 seed counterparts many a times. In my bracket, I chose Harvard to upset Vanderbilt and advance to the Round of 32, who we already know will face Wisconsin.

Who do you think will win the Harvard/Vandy matchup?

Who’s your upset pick (s) in the round of 64?

Fab Melo deemed ineligible for NCAA Tourney

Since the end of their season, Syracuse was projected to have a number 1 seed in the Big Dance. They achieved that goal, and now they’re looking to run all the way to New Orléans. However, they’ve just had a major setback. Fabricio Melo, the sophomore center hailing from Brazil, has been deemed ineligible  for the NCAA Tournament. Yahoo! Sports initially broke the story. Melo was deemed ineligible by the university, not by the NCAA.

When I first saw the headline, I was shocked. How is Syracuse going to fight through this? Many bracketeers have them getting to the Final Four. Despite their high seed and 31-2 overall record, I don’t think they will get farther than the Elite Eight. When you add this “Melo drama” to the mix, it becomes a cloud over the university.

Syracuse has fought off adversity with no problems this year. The Bernie Fine allegations, the Jim Boehiem suit, and now this. They have the talent to get through this tournament, but can they do it without their spark? Melo is the guy on that team that provides the energy, thus with him out they will need to find replacement energy either off their bench or in their starters.

Do you think the Orange can go far in this tournament without Melo?

March Madness is here!

On Sunday, the NCAA Selection Committee announced the field of 68 for this year’s Division 1 tournament. The bubble teams that made the tourney include BYU, USF and NC State.

Every year, there are some bubble teams rejected by the Committee, usually based on their weak SOS (strength of schedule) This year, Drexel is a perfect example of that. Although they went 27-6, they failed to get in the tournament because of their SOS (213). While Drexel did not make it in, Iona College did…Who would’ve guess Iona would be in the tourney? 90% of analysts didn’t even have them as their First 4 Out. Iona did just as good as Drexel (25-7) but with a SOS of 144. I guess now I can see why they were chosen over Drexel.

The Gaels will look to make a run in this year's NCAA Tournament (1.bp.blogspot.com)

To be honest, the Committee did a great job this year with the bubble teams. The biggest snubs were Drexel and Washington, and you can make a case for them being in or out of the tourney. Usually, the Committee completely misses a team that truly deserves a spot.

I think the field this year has some great teams, ut the real strength lies in the bubble teams. Iona, Ohio, Vermont, and NC State all have great chances to knock a top seed out f the tournament. Can they get all the way to the Final 4 like VCU did last year? I’d love to see that happen.

What do you think of the field? Any huge surprises?

Happy March Madness!

Bill O’Brien Headed to Penn State

News broke out today that Patriots Offensive Coordinator Bill O’Brien has signed with Penn State. It seems that news is true. PSU is looking to officially introduce their new head coach at a press conference on Saturday (espn.com). Was this a good decision by PSU to hire O’Brien?? In my opinion, they should’ve looked for a head coach, not an offensive or defensive coordinator. That would’ve helped them out already, and would’ve narrowed the search down a bit more. I don’t know how good of a coordinator O’Brien is, but I do know the Pats have a great offense.

To be honest, not much of a sports day today…maybe tomorrow will be better?

One last question: Was this a good or bad decision by PSU?

Terrelle Pryor Leaves OSU for the NFL

You heard me. That wasn’t a typo. On June 7th, 2011, Ohio State University star QB Terrelle Pryor announced his decision to enter the supplemental draft, thus forgoing his senior year.

It all started on December 26th of last year, when it was announced that Terrelle Pryor, 4 other players, and coach Jim Tressel were sanctioned by the NCAA. The sanction was brought about because the players sold their equipment and championship rings for a profit. This goes against NCAA rules. Coach Tress was sanctioned because he didn’t tell the NCAA about this, even thought he knew the whole time. If he told, his players would’ve called him a snitch; nobody wants that. That was definitely the reason he didn’t tell. In addition, Tress would’ve gotten in trouble too for letting this happen and he probably thought he’d get away with it.

Of course, everyone’s heard of Tress’ resignation right? Man, OSU has some big problems. At least they ain’t no USC (lol).

At least they Still have their Cheerleaders...

Now, Pryor says he refuses to play in the CFL. Well, he kinda only said he isn’t “interested”, but we all know what that means…..

OSU Coach Tressel Resigns Amid 11th Season

When you make a big mistake, do you feel bad about it? Most people do; it’s called having a conscience. Because of the guilt associated with the mistake, most people apologize for what they did. Being apologetic after you made a boo-boo is in our DNA; it’s what makes us human. When a dog accidently knocks over a vase, does he show any emotion? I don’t think he does; however, I am not normally around dogs, so whoever is can gladly correct me. My main point is: most people do not need to be TOLD to apologize. Instead, they take it upon themselves to accept what they’ve done and….apologize. They just do it..Apparently, former OSU football coach Jim Tressel isn’t normal. After allegations of failing to

Tressel Resigned from Ohio State on Monday

report (to the NCAA) knowledge of players selling memorabilia, Tress was suspended for 5 games of the 2011-2012 season. Honestly, I expected him to apologize on his own, without anyone telling him what to do. However, this was not the case, as the sanctions brought upon him FORCED him to apologize. He could’ve apologized as soon as the allegations were brought up; but NO, he had to be a stubborn old man. On Memorial Day 2011 (May 30th), Jim Tressel officially resigned as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. I can’t wait to see where he’ll end up next.

Oklahoma Linebacker Austin Box Found Dead

Wow, another death. In the past two weeks, we’ve already seen the death of three sports stars, the most recent being the death of Oklahoma Sooners linebacker Austin Box.

The Junior From Oklahoma Died Thursday

“Oklahoma City television station KFOR reported that Box was found unresponsive in El Reno, an Oklahoma City suburb, and was transported to a hospital in Oklahoma City, where he died” (Courtesy ESPN.com). Within his last two seasons at Oklahoma, Box started in six games. On February 15, 2010, he was arrested for peeing on bar stools. Subsequently, he was given a complaint of disorderly conduct for urinating in public. He was later released. This day is obviously sad for college fans, especially the Sooner fans and his friends/family. My condolences goes out to them. He was only 22 years old young.
